The New Fellow placement program

There is one New Fellow Placement opportunity, to be awarded as part of the annual program. This consists of one return economy flight for a plastic surgery New Fellow, to participate in an Interplast field trip to an Asia Pacific destination, confirmed by Interplast, to be held within one year of formal announcement of receipt of the prize.

The placement opportunity to be awarded, organised by Interplast, will consist of one trip for one adult valued at approximately AU$10,000, depending on the date and point of departure. This includes a return economy class airfare from the successful participant’s nearest capital city in Australia, up to four (4) nights’ accommodation (depending on duration of medical program), all meals during the medical program, ground transfers, travel insurance and any other essential requirements required by Interplast during the program.

Personal items, spending money, Australian transfers and any items not provided to you as part of the prize are excluded.

The Interplast field trip will be held on dates to be determined, and for a period of 3-4 days or as confirmed by Interplast. The date(s) and location of the field trip are subject to change.

The final recipient will be kept up to date with any changes made.

If for any reason any confirmed placement (or part of any placement) becomes unavailable, it will be substituted with an opportunity of equal value.

Selection of the placement recipient

The applications will be assessed by a panel comprising of representatives from Avant Mutual and Interplast, in early May.

The recipient will be chosen based on the information they provide as part of the application form, written statement and other required documentation. If considered necessary, the panel will conduct an interview. The single best application, as judged against the criteria, will be awarded the placement opportunity. The applicant must disclose all information relevant to the application for the Education Committee’s consideration.

Avant and Interplast’s decision is final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Participant selection is based on information provided by the applicant. Interplast and Avant reserve the right to withdraw an offer of participation at any stage if:

  • the applicant has provided incorrect information or withheld relevant information;
  • any part of the application was found to have been made fraudulently; and
  • the participant has in any way failed to comply with the terms and conditions of this program.

Notification to recipient

The recipient will be formally notified by telephone and email within five days of the draw and will be published on the Avant website at avantdifference.org.au.

The recipient will also be formally presented with a certificate at the ASPS Annual Scientific Meeting (ASPS PSC or RACS ASM on alternate years).

Avant reserves the right to request verification of identity, residential address of the winner and any other information relevant to the entry. Any requirements regarding verification will be at Avant’s discretion.

Unsuccessful applications will be notified by email in May.

Unclaimed placement opportunity

If the recipient is unable to confirm their participation or attendance on the field trip, Avant may award the opportunity to a non-winning application, judged on the next best entry, or has the right to withdraw the unclaimed prize.

The placement opportunity must be taken as stated and is not variable or transferable.

The placement opportunity is not redeemable for cash. Avant’s decisions will be final and binding - no correspondence will be entered into. Avant accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected entries or other communications.
