Avant Foundation Grants FAQs

Why are there two stages to the application process?

Stage 1 – The Expression of Interest will assess how the applicant’s project fits with the scope and priorities of the Foundation.  A Judging Panel will review the Expressions of Interest and shortlist those who will be invited to participate in Stage 2 – Submission of a full application. For more information refer to the Terms and Conditions on the website.
 

Would you consider giving a grant to a for-profit group or individual?

Yes.  Please refer to the section on Eligibility in the Terms and Conditions on the website.
 

Will the Foundation prioritise any particular focus area?

No, all focus areas are equally important however it should be aligned to our core vision as set out in our Terms and Conditions.

 

Are funding amounts pre-determined?

No.  The Foundation will determine the number of and the amount of any grant.

 

Can we submit more than one proposal?

Yes as long as they are under the same format i.e. as an entity or as an individual.

 

Should I apply for an Avant Foundation Grant as an individual or through an entity with Deductible Gift Recipient status that I am associated with?

This is best determined by the way that your project is set up, administered and governed and any protocols relating to research and grant applications that exist within your workplace.

Can I apply for an Avant Foundation Grant both through an entity that has Deductible Gift Recipient status and as an individual with the same project?

No. We will not accept multiple applications for the same project under different formats.

If my project runs over am I granted an extension of time?

The expectation is that the project will be completed within the agreed timeframe but no more than 24 months.

 

How do I apply for a Foundation Grant?

You must complete the online expression of interest form between 20 October 2017 to 31 January 2018.

 

Do I have be an Avant member to apply for a grant?

No.   More information can be found in the Terms and Conditions under the Eligibility section.

 

If I already receive funding for the project from another organisation, am I still eligible to apply?

Yes you are.  However, you need to provide details of any current funding for your project as part of your expression of interest/application and any other funding you will receive, or seek, during the project period.

 

How long is the application process open for?

Stage 1 - Expressions of Interest are open from 20 October 2017 to 31 January 2018. If you are selected and invited to participate in Stage 2 – Full applications are open from 1 February 2018 to 31 March 2018.

When will grant payments be made?

The first instalment of the grant (50%) will be paid upon commencement of your research program. Avant will pay the second instalment (25%) mid-term during the project period and the final instalment (25%) upon completion of the project. If unsuccessful is a reason provided?

No. Any decision by The Foundation on any matter is final and not subject to review.

If I have technical difficulties with the online forms what should I do?

If unsuccessful are we able to apply with the same proposal at the next round of grants?

If your proposal has not been approved it will not be reconsidered at the next round of grants, and you will need to complete the expression of interest again.
